Biovail Contract Research to Exhibit
at IIR's Faster and More Efficient
Phase I Clinical Trials Conference
Toronto,
January 22, 2003 - On January
28-29th, 2003, Biovail Contract Research
joins the Institute of International
Research's "4th Annual Faster and
More Efficient Phase I Clinical Trials
Conference" in Washington DC, as one
of its key exhibitors. Dr. Shafik
Dharamshi, Director of Study Operations,

relating to the conduct of Phase I
clinical trials in Europe will be
discussed. Dr. Dharamshi and Mr. Haber
will be on hand to discuss the benefits
of conducting Phase I clinical trials
in Canada, especially in light of
these new developments in Europe.
One of the key benefits in Canadian-based
Phase I clinical trials is the 7-day
target review time for the Clinical
Trial Application (CTA), the Canadian
counterpart of the US IND and European
CTX, which is significantly shorter
than the review times in both the
US and shortly in Europe.

Biovail
Contract Research Launches Its New
Logo and Continues its Revitalization
Toronto,
September 30, 2002 –
Biovail Contract Research will be
launching its new green and black
logo at the 2002 American Association
of Pharmaceutical Scientists Annual
Meeting on November 11th, 2002 in
Toronto. The veterans behind Toronto’s
oldest CRO are still the key to our
business as a niche CRO focused on
bioanalysis and BA/BE trials in healthy
volunteers, but we continue to reinvent
ourselves to serve our customers better,
as symbolized by our new logo. To
fuel our growth and our revitalization
as a CRO, we have made significant
investments in the past two years,
which will further enhance our value-added
service capabilities. So far, these
major investments have included:
- Renovation
of our 6 clinics to ensure that
each of the clinics is completely
separate and independent, with its
own dormitory, dosing room, blood
draw room, ECG room, washrooms,
TV area, and eating area.
- Creation
of a 12-bed Phase I clinic for first-in-man
studies, drug-drug interaction studies,
pharmacokinetic studies, dose-ranging
studies, absolute bioavailability
studies, and pilot studies. We acquired
the latest ambulatory telemetry
system in the market to equip this
Phase I clinic.
- Expansion
of our bioanalytical laboratory.
- Upgrade
of our bioanalytical laboratory
computer systems for 21 CFR part
11 compliance.
- Purchase
and installation of two TSQ Quantum
LC-MS/MS.
- Creation
and execution of TV advertising
in primetime television shows to
increase our subject population
database further from 35,000 healthy
individuals.
- Purchase
of MeDra license to allow us to
code adverse events using this dictionary.
- Introduction
of Phase I trials in renally-impaired
patients as one of our key service
offerings.
Biovail
Contract Research acquires two new
TSQ Quantum LC-MS/MS units
Toronto,
July 25, 2002 -- Biovail Contract
Research is pleased to announce the
acquisition of two TSQ Quantum LC-MS/MS
units this year. The first installation
is scheduled in August 2002, with
the second installation to follow
in November 2002. They are targeted
to be operational for biostudy sample
analysis starting in November. The
first method development project using
the TSQ Quantum is currently scheduled
for October.
After an extensive
evaluation of the next-generation
LC-MS/MS technologies currently in
the marketplace, Biovail Contract
Research selected the TSQ Quantum
LC-MS/MS, “the world’s
first high resolution, accurate mass,
triple quadrupole mass spectrometer”
(ThermoFinnigan).
Key features
of the TSQ Quantum LC-MS/MS include:
- Ultra-high
sensitivity, low-noise detection
system;
- Increased
precision, ruggedness and reliability;
- Wide
dynamic range performance;
- High
resolution feature, allowing for
improved selectivity, sensitivity
and extended dynamic range;
- High
resolution feature can be used with
minimal sample clean up, a potential
for high throughput analysis; and,
- Faster
method development, and shorter
run times.
Biovail Contract
Research is excited about the potential
applications of these TSQ Quantum
LC-MS/MS features to its client’s
product development programs. Some
of the potential assay applications
include:
To take advantage
of Its Increased Sensitivity:
•Assays with low plasma volumes
•Accurate PK profile of drugs
with low systemic levels
•PK analysis of novel formulations
with local topical effects
To take advantage
of Its Wide Dynamic Range (5 orders
of magnitude):
•Single
method applicable for all administered
doses and all strengths
•Single method for drugs and
metabolites
•Single method for drug combination
products
At Biovail Contract
Research, we believe that the TSQ
Quantum should find widespread use
in the development of simple, fast,
accurate and rugged methods for many
PK applications.
If you are interested
in exploring any method development
possibilities for your product utilizing
the TSQ Quantum LC-MS/MS, please contact
us.
