Subject Recruitment
- We
recruit from the pool of >5 million
residents in the Greater Toronto
Area and surrounding areas. Clients
can have access to this large and
ethnically diverse subject pool.
This large pool allows Biovail to
recruit subjects for most studies
rapidly.
- Prospective
subjects are reached through our
regular advertisements in radio,
newspapers, television, our website,
and through telemarketing efforts.
- Our
modern call center has 14 separate
telephone lines dedicated for subject
recruitment. Potential subjects
can call 7 days a week for more
information regarding studies, or
they can alternatively seek more
information on our web site.
- We
utilize the “Clinical Eligibility
Subject Recruiting” (CESR)
database, a comprehensive subject
database system to track subject
recruitment, screening and participation,
including demographic and medical
information.
Subject Screening
- All
subject-screening activities are
conducted in a separate screening
area within our satellite facility,
located next to the subway station.
- Prospective
subjects are involved in a pre-study
interview and complete medical history
and physical examination, which
are conducted by medical personnel
and supervised by the medical director.
- Prospective
subjects undergo an informed consent
procedure, during which they are
informed of their rights and obligations,
potential side effects and other
study details.
- Prospective
subjects are also tested for pregnancy
(females only), drugs of abuse,
nicotine and saliva alcohol for
assessment of study eligibility.
- We
are directly linked to a central
clinical laboratory which provides
a quick turnaround of test results
for blood chemistry, hematology,
urinalysis for medical screening
or other study specific requirements.
